Meet Fi
c. JJ Geiger
Writer, Editor, Consultant.
Hi! I’m Fi (they/them), an award-winning independent journalist, editor, and writer covering health, science, tech, climate, LGBTQ+ issues, and more. I’m a Senior Editor at NOCD, and the host and writer of the safety pin newsletter and podcast. My writing has been published in The Nation, The New York Times, Teen Vogue, Wired, Vox, The Guardian, Business Insider, the Columbia Journalism Review, and more. My book, THE LONG COVID SURVIVAL GUIDE, was a 2022 Foreword INDIES Gold Winner in Health.
I have experience in digital media, content marketing, thought-leadership, and science communication, and have provided editorial and communications consulting to clients in the technology, health, education, legal, media and nonprofit sectors. I am also an editor at REI, where I work on stories about the science of running, sustainability, and the outdoors. I have served as a subject matter expert on patient experiences and peer communities for the CDC, WHO and POTUS Covid-19 Equity Task Force, and have produced a series of work meant to help journalists navigate reporting on novel and chronic illnesses.
I am also a community-builder. In 2018, I started the NYC-based queer feminist wellness collective and events series, Body Politic, which became a grassroots patient-led health justice organization. In 2020, I co-founded the Body Politic COVID-19 Support Group on Slack which served over 15K people across the globe until 2023, and has been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and Women’s Health, among many other outlets. Since then I’ve helped launch non-profit organizations, communities for media entrepreneurs, digital health newsletters, and symptom tracking apps.
I am based in Los Angeles, California, but was born and raised in New York City.
